Interfaith Thanksgiving Service
\nEckerd College, St. Petersburg, Florida
\nNovember 22, 2015<\/em><\/p>\n

The college choir,
\ndressed in black,
\nline up on Fox Hall bleacher steps.
\nOutside, a flock of ibis land,
\nwhite queue at rest beside a pond.
\nAnd now \"Let There Be Peace on Earth\"
\nsoothes our broken hearts.<\/p>\n

All ache as one
\nfor the innocents
\nof Paris, Mali, Sinai's air.
\nWe all honor the peacemakers,
\nquietly gathered there,
\nall faiths,
\nno faith,
\nnear despair.<\/p>\n

We now address
\nall the makers of peace
\nin our homes and
\non our streets,
\nin nearby shelters,
\non far-off shores,
\nin packed school halls,
\non mural walls. <\/p>\n

Let sane words echo
\nagainst the fray,
\nagainst the bloody
\ncalls to arms.
\nLet us turn from arrogance.
\nLet the powers that be
\nkeep us free from harm.<\/p>\n

And let all chatter
\nat Thanksgiving tables
\nbe relatively calm.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
